Aerial blocking was removed entirely, and the switch around move, which enabled a player to shift quickly behind the other's back, as well as the dodge (Evade side-step) retained and retimed, in which the move virtually brings a semi-3D environment to the defense in attempt to use each sword more effectively. The most obvious change is visual, with dramatically adjusted color palettes for the individual characters, generally brightening them up and reducing contrast, in the attempt to make the game more cartoonish. and even Zankuro Minazuki also has a hand in the story.Īfter Samurai Shodown III was received more or less poorly by the fighting game community, SNK again went back to address the complaints, and tried to deliver a followup that would hopefully regain some of the magic that had made Samurai Shodown II such a hit. Having already engulfed the Shimabara peninsula, this castle of evil grows larger day by day. Having previously been resurrected from the realm of the dead, Amakusa was supposed to have been slain in the midst of his evil designs, but now he returns to subjugate the world of the living. The lord of that castle is Shiro Tokisada Amakusa. It isn't all rereleases for SNK Playmore. As of press time, a representative with the publisher had not returned requests for clarification on which games would be included in the latter two titles.

If those collections sound a little too focused for some tastes, SNK Playmore is also preparing SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1 for the PS2 and PSP. Meanwhile, Samurai Shodown Anthology should collect a sampling of that series' offerings and will see release on the PS2 and Wii.

The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga is a collection of the 1995-1997 demon-tinted installments in the series for the Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. Samurai Shodown is set for an arcade revival and a console retrospective.įollowing up the Art of Fighting Anthology and Fatal Fury Battle Archives collections, SNK Playmore is compiling some of its other highly regarded series for domestic release.
